Welcome to Undernet #Macintosh

What we are

#Macintosh is a channel on the Undernet IRC network which strives to foster discussion of the Macintosh and other computer-related topics.

Although we are dedicated to the Macintosh, we recognize that not everyone wants to talk about their computers all the time. For this reason, our regulars discuss a wide range of topics, and some are experts in fields other than computers. Most of us are ordinary users, not tech-support experts.

Who we are

The Undermac crew comes from a wide range of backgrounds and from around the world, each with different skills and abilities. See our stats page, showing channel activity.

#Macintosh Channel Rules

For the most part, people behave themselves. Using common sense is the best rule of all. However, it is always useful to have a set of guidelines of approprate behavior for those people who are unaware of our customs.

  1. The only stupid question is, "can I ask a question?".
  2. We DO NOT tolerate software piracy of ANY KIND, for ANY REASON.
  3. If someone needs help, then help them.
  4. Be patient with channel members. If you do not receive a reply immediately, perhaps no one that is present now knows the answer to your question.
  5. Treat everyone with respect. Especially those who freely give their time and advice. You are not paying us. We are not required to help you. We do so only because we want to.
  6. Do not flood the channel with ascii art, beeps, moronic messages, or stuff your mother would be ashamed of. Do not overuse color. It does not appear correctly on some of our IRC clients. Do not abuse the bots.
  7. Do not abuse the privileges that have been provided for you. Being a member of our community is a privilege, not a right.
  8. Do not ask for ops or special privileges of any kind.
  9. Do not run bots in the channel.

Policy on Software Piracy

We define software piracy as the following:

Software piracy is the stealing of software by obtaining or trading serial numbers, cracks, or full programs in violation of their license agreements. In short, if you are supposed to pay for a program in order to use it, and you are not, then you are guilty of stealing.
There are many channel members that work at software companies, including Apple, and software piracy directly affects us. If you violate this rule, expect harsh public shaming and/or removal from the channel.
