#Macintosh is a channel available on the Undernet IRC network and is provided to foster the discussion of Macintosh© and other computer related topics. It is also known as one of the primary help channels, with experienced operators and 4 frequent IRC ops to help.

We would like you to visit this channel as much as possible. It is a very friendly, open discussion channel, and is very stable and free from takeovers and the such.

This document is provided to explain and display the current rules and regulations in #Macintosh.

Current Operator Status and How it is Organized

We currently have 3 Channel Bots: 1 provided by Cservice (X), and 2 user bots (MacGOD and MacServ). Each of these bots serves a primary purpose in keeping the channel secure and providing ops and commands for channel operators.

      X (Cservice)

      • Always on 24/7 and is the most stable
      • Can be used to store bans and op users
      • X has minimal user stats, MacSERV and MacGOD are used for this purpose
      MacGOD
      • Remains online as much as Jason- can keep him on
      • Can be used to store bans and op users
      • Primary store of user stats as well as bans.
      • Provider of many user based commands Will come up with a list of these eventually
      • Party line chat area that is self contained and currently hooked up to MacServ and various other eggdrop bots
      MacServ
      • Remains online as much as Coccyx can keep him on
      • Can be used to store bans and op users, but should be placed in MacGOD because the user list is transfered between the 2
      • Backup to MacGOD. User list is transmitted on average 3 times in a 24 hour period
      • Provider of many user based commands Will come up with a list of these eventually
      • Party line chat area that is self contained and currently hooked up to MacGOD and various other eggdrop bots
    Operettiquete

Operator levels in #Macintosh are similar to those found in a structured company. That is, Administrative, Master, and Channel Operators.

      Administrative

Administrative Ops have complete rule over the channel. They may ban, unban, op, deop, change channel modes and topics, and have total control over all 3 bots.

Administrative Ops have the power to grant permanent ops to anyone they see fit. Any Administrative Op has veto power over any and all other ops actions.

If a Channel Operator or Master goes postal (Bans without procation, flames the channel, or otherwise abuses his/her right to that position)  an Administrative op can revoke their privileges without consulting other Administrative ops.

      Master

Provides maintenance administration for the channel.

Masters may not appoint new permanent ops without approval from all Administrative Ops, but may change flags and act appropriately in emergencies.

Masters have full access to MacServ and MacGOD, including the ban and other lists. Masters also have an entry in X. Commands available to these levels are available online by consulting the online help in the bots.

      Channel Operator
Provides maintenance administration for the channel. Have +o use of the bots and may or may not have an entry in X.

Channel Operators may not appoint op status to a user. Channel Operators are allowed to issue bans and change channel modes when appropriate in the event of an emergency.

      Current Bot/User Statistics
All access is recursive (ie Admin has Master and Channel Operator)

    Policy on WAREZ

The only thing that we say is "NO WAREZ!"

Warez is defined by #macintosh as:

Warez is pirating commercial software by obtaining serial numbers

      for commercial and/or shareware, cracks to register said software;
or trading said software or serial numbers. This also includes any
fileserv system such as XDCC or bots that advertise or offer via
      public, NOTICE, or PRIVMSG.
Warezers will be kicked from the channel, and then "educated" on the "evils" of warez. If that user continues or ignores the op's statements, the user will most likely be banned from #macintosh (temporary or permanently).

    What We HOPE Goes On

The Right to Assistance. The primary reason for #macintosh's existance is to HELP USERS. Ops keep the conversation on topic and keep order in the channel. If a user enters the channel requesting assistance, any non-away ops in the channel are required to offer any assistance they can. #Macintosh is not a place for idle chat, it is for Macintosh-related topics.
